Top Tips for a Day out during Winter

December 2017

Here are a few tips to help you make the most of days out during the cold Winter months.

You need to plan for every weather eventuality it could be cold, wet and snow or even ice all in one day. Bring warm coats, wellies or appropriate footwear, hats and scarfs.

Dress your children in lots of layers so if you do go inside they can take their layers off.

Do plan your route carefully and ensure you have checked local travel updates and information to avoid long delays.

It might take longer getting to places due to the adverse weather conditions so make sure you have plenty of drinks and snacks in the car.

Have plenty of children’s music and stories in the car for long car journeys. They are tedious, but they do keep bored children entertained!

Bring spare clothes. Children love the snow and jumping in puddles, but it does mean they can get soaking wet and cold before you have even left the car park.

Keep a spare phone charger and USB port for the cigarette lighter handy in your car just in case you run out of battery for your phone. This means you can call for help if you need to.

Just in case your car breaks down on your winter road trip somewhere remote make sure you have all the necessary equipment like torches, blankets, snacks, bottles of water and a medical kit in your car.

Plan lots of breaks during your day for breaks with snacks for the children and also hot drinks for the adults to keep spirits and energy levels up!

Take lots of photos of your day out including ones of yourself!
